The importance of Sports Community in Sydney

It is often said that playing sports is akin to worshipping God. Playing sports is the biggest anti-depressant and it cost one nothing but give everything as benefit in return.

Sydney is a beautiful capital city of Australia's New South Wales province and it is also the most populous city of that country. Busting with sporting activities throughout the year, it can be called as the sports capital of Australia.

If you want to get a true taste of Sydney's life, then you must know that Australians are fanatical about their sports. And Sydney is no different. Sports and keeping fit play an integral part in the city's cultural sporting community, and for sport lovers - whether you want to take part or just watch - this city is a must.

Sports Community in Sydney plays an important part in moulding the sporting culture of Australia and Australians. Sports are its inseparable ingredients of the city's cultural life. It has many sporting places and stadiums in abundance.

Sydney is the only city other than Melbourne and Brisbane to have an elite presence in the 4 major football codes of Australia. Prominent sporting venues in Sydney include the Sydney Cricket Ground or SCG, ANZ Stadium, the Sydney Football Stadium, Sydney Motorsport Park, Royal Randwick and Rosehill Gardens Racecourse. Large sporting events such as the NRL Grand Final and Bledisloe Cup games are regularly held at the ANZ Stadium, the main stadium for the 2000 Summer Olympics.

The most popular sport in Sydney is rugby league and the city is home to nine of the sixteen teams in the National Rugby League competition. Cricket is the most popular summer sport in Sydney  hence, the Ashes Series between Australia and England is widely popular among the people. Soccer or Football is also played there but Australian rules football is considerably less popular in Sydney than in many other regions of Australia. It also hosts the National Basketball League (NBL) and you can also search players through Sports Community in Sydney. The city has a women's netball team (Swifts), a ABL baseball team (Sydney Blue Sox), a field hockey team (Waratahs), two ice hockey teams (Penrith Bears and Sydney Ice Dogs) and many more.

In short, Sydney has a very vibrant sporting community which is so intrinsic in the city's overall cultural life. Sports are taken very seriously by the Government and people here and considered an integral and equal part of the education system. Children are encouraged from their childhood days to play sports of their liking.
