Aspen Colorado is home to some of the finest ski terrain in the world. This combined with an average of over 300 inches of snow a year make it one of the best ski destinations in Colorado. Aspen / Snowmass is home to four ski mountains, Aspen, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass. Aspen Mountain raises directly out of the core of downtown Aspen on the Silver Queen Gondola for over 3,000 feet of vertical in one lift. Accessing hundreds of acres of intermediate and advanced terrain and the ability so ski then entire mountain top to bottom from one gondola ride. Aspen Mountain is known for its challenging terrain with famous double black runs such as Walshes that looks up stunning Independence Pass, and the Mine Dumps, perfectly consistent double black ski runs that were formed buy mine tailings dug out by silver miners during the Aspen silver rush. Aspen is also famous for great bump runs, formed by the expert local skiers who ski this mountain every day. Aspen Highlands is home to the world famous Highlands Bowl, where you will find the longest most consistently steep runs in Colorado, period. In addition "The Bowl" as locals call it is hike to terrain which means only the fit and brave can access it, keeping the snow fresh for a long time after a large snow. If your not up for the hike no worry, Highlands also has excellent steeps in Steeplechase and great tree skiing on the Merry Go Round side of the mountain. Be sure to check out Cloud Nine Bistro for a dining experience like no other. Buttermilk has two distinct personalities in one mountain, with acres of beginner and intermediate ski terrain that is groomed to perfection every night this is an ideal place to learn to ski, or step over the Tiehack side of the mountain where you can break into some easier expert runs. Buttermilk is also home to the international Winter X Games, with a terrain park that stretches the entire length of the mountain, a huge freestyle kicker and a mega pipe, a half pipe built for the best skier and snowboarders in the world. Snowmass is a huge mountain upon itself, it alone is almost the size of Vail, the largest mountain in Colorado. Snowmass has lots of ski in/ski out lodging, many restaurants, and a great place for families as it offers load of terrain for all levels. Intermediate skiers can hit burnt mountain for high speed groomers or mellow gladed terrain in Powerline Glades, Beginners can take a lesson from the famous Aspen ski school and Experts can tackle the steeps of "The Wall" or "The Cirque" and all easily meet for lunch.
Aspen Colorado is not only a ski town but home to the internationally acclaimed Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, the ballet performs new work each summer and winter season in Aspen as well as for audiences around the globe including destinations as far as Russia.
